Safety & Emergency Procedures

The safety of our campers is everyone’s responsibility. Please review and become familiar with the following emergency procedures before camp begins.

1. Building Evacuation (Fire, Gas Leak, or Other Emergency)

  • Stay calm and immediately direct students to the nearest safe exit.

  • Do not allow running or pushing.

  • Leave all personal belongings behind.

  • Coaches must remain with their assigned group at all times.

  • Proceed to the designated safe meeting location:

Right-side parking lot next to the church, farthest corner near Family Dollar.

  • Take attendance immediately and report any missing camper to Camp Leadership.

  • Do not re-enter the building until instructed by emergency personnel or Camp Leadership.

2. Inclement Weather (Tornado or Severe Weather)

  • Camp Leadership will announce when to shelter in place.

  • Calmly escort your assigned group to the designated shelter area:

Fellowship Hall (Downstairs)

  • Take attendance upon arrival.

  • Keep campers seated, calm, and quiet.

  • Remain in the shelter until Camp Leadership gives the all-clear.

Inclement Weather Prior to Camp Arrival

If severe weather is expected before camp begins, Camp Leadership will monitor conditions and determine whether camp will operate as scheduled, be delayed, or be canceled. Any schedule changes will be communicated to all staff and parents as early as possible through the official IMIME communication channels. Staff should not report to campus until instructed to do so if hazardous conditions exist.

3. Medical Emergency

  • Stay calm and notify Camp Leadership immediately.

  • Contact the Medical Team.

  • Call 911 immediately for any life-threatening emergency.

  • Do not move an injured person unless they are in immediate danger.

  • A member of Camp Leadership will notify the parent or guardian.

  • Complete an Incident Report before leaving for the day.

4. Active Threat / Armed Intruder

  • Call 911 immediately and notify Camp Leadership.

  • Follow the Run, Hide, Fight principle:

    • Run if there is a safe escape route.

    • Hide if you cannot safely evacuate. Lock or barricade doors, turn off lights, silence phones, and remain quiet.

    • Fight only as a last resort if your life or the lives of campers are in immediate danger and escape is not possible.

  • Follow all instructions from law enforcement.

  • Do not leave your assigned campers unless your safety requires it.

  • Do not post information, photos, or videos on social media during an emergency.

5. Clear Bag Policy

To help maintain a safe and secure environment for all campers, staff, volunteers, and guests:

  • All campers, staff, coaches, volunteers, and visitors are required to use clear bags while on campus.

  • Bags should be transparent and allow contents to be easily visible.

  • Small personal items such as wallets, keys, phones, and medically necessary items are permitted.

  • Camp Leadership reserves the right to inspect any bag entering the facility.

  • Anyone who does not comply with the Clear Bag Policy may be asked to return the bag to their vehicle before entering the building.

Staff Expectations

  • Arrive prepared and remain alert.

  • Always know where your assigned campers are.

  • Never leave campers unattended.

  • Keep emergency exits clear at all times.

  • Report any suspicious person, activity, or safety concern immediately.

  • Maintain professionalism and remain calm during every emergency.

  • Follow directions from Camp Leadership at all times.

  • All emergency communication with parents, media, or the public will come only from Camp Leadership.

  1. Protect life.

  2. Stay calm.

  3. Account for every camper.

  4. Communicate with Camp Leadership.

  5. Follow the direction of emergency responders.
